Empowering the Next Generation
Empowering Student Programs at the Ethnic Cultural Center
At the University of Washington's Ethnic Cultural Center, I served as the sole designer to brand all events hosted at our facility. Some of my proudest achievements were rebrands for student programs that were struggling to connect with their audiences. Let's Talk, the counseling drop-in program, wasn't reaching minority students due to stigma around mental health. I created a fresh visual identity with vibrant colors and relatable graphics that shifted perceptions, making the service feel more approachable and relevant to students of color. Participation increased as the new branding helped normalize seeking support.
For Mentor Power for Success, a mentorship program for first-generation students, I developed imagery that better represented the mentor-protégé relationship. Using pathway motifs and collaborative visuals, the redesign emphasized guidance and community. The updated identity led to stronger engagement, with more students seeking mentors and reporting greater confidence in navigating campus resources.
Both projects demonstrated how strategic design could break down barriers to student support services. By creating visuals that spoke directly to students' experiences and concerns, these programs became more accessible and effective in serving underrepresented communities.
